There is nothing better than on a cold, windy, grey day to snuggle up on the couch with a cup of steaming hot mulled cider.
Mulled cider is the beer or cider lovers equivalent to mulled wine. The concept is the same - cider is infused with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise and served hot. This recipe not only fills your house with the aromatic smells of toastiness but it will well and truly warm your soul.
Recently MOD released our very own cider brewing kit. Using our MOD Cold Press Juicer to first juice fresh apples, the kit provides you with everything you need to make hard cider at home.
There is something so special with making a recipe completely from scratch. Creating mulled cider from your very own home brewed cider creates a wonderful sense of achievement.
These kits have been so popular as Father's Day presents or as gifts to generally anyone who loves their cider or beer and is particularly hard to buy for.

Mulled Hard Cider | MOD Appliances
4 slices of fresh orange
4 slices of red apple
3cm piece of fresh ginger, thinly slcied
1 cinnamon stick for the pot, plus 1 per glass for garnishing
5 whole cloves
1 TBSP cardamon pods, lightly crushed
2 whole star anise for the pot, plus 1 per glass for garnishing
2 TBSP honey or maple syrup (more or less to taste)
1 small stocking
Place all the spices, with the exception of the nutmeg, into a stocking and tie to close.
Place a large pot over medium heat. Pour in your cider, the orange and apple slices and the spice bag. Give everything a stir.
Once the mulled cider begins to simmer, turn the heat down to low and lightly simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occassionnaly.
When ready to serve, use a ladle to scoop out the cider, avoiding fruit slices and spice bag. Garnish each glass with some fresh orange and apple slices, 1 cinnamon stick and 1 whole star anise plus a grating of fresh nutmeg.
