With those frosty, winter mornings setting in, the idea of bringing out your juicer to make a cold pressed juice can be unappealing. I find in winter, my tea and coffee consumption increases and my cravings for colder drinks disappear.

Mulled wine is a classic winter drink and though it is on the indulgent side, by going an extra step and cold pressing your own oranges to make the recipe, you might as well juice a little extra and enjoy a glass of cold pressed orange juice the next day for breakfast. As someone who used to spend winters plagued with colds and flu's, ensuring I get a healthy dose or fruit and vegetables through the season has been pivotal in building up my immune defence.

Mulled Wine Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 large orange, sliced into half moons, peeled

  • 1 lemon, sliced in half.

  • 1 bottles ( 750 ml) of medium bodied red wine

  • 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 3 TBSP brown sugar (more or less to taste)

  • 5 TBSP brandy

Directions

  1. Set up your MOD Cold Press Juicer per the Juicing Manual

  2. Juice the orange and half of the lemon until you reach 130ml of juice. Save the other lemon half for a garnish

  3. Pour the wine into a large saucepan and add all the ingredients except for the brandy and lemon.

  4. Slowly heat on a low-medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring the mulled wine to just under a simmer - do not let it boil!

  5. Taste as you go, adding more spice, sugar or orange juice to suit your personal taste preferences.

  6. Ladle into glasses, making sure to include some of the spices and citrus in each glass. Garnish with lemon and serve.
