Top Tips From Long Time Juicers!
Hi friends
This week have put together some top tips from long time juicers to help you get the absolute most out of your juice. Here goes!
Make It Taste Great
Like all food, you should enjoy what you create when you juice. No one wants to struggle over getting family members to drink a dark, murky, questionable concoction. While some young children (and adults) do not enjoy the bitter taste of vegetables, they can easily be disguised by adding apple or carrot as the base for green juices. Trust us, if it tastes good, everyone will drink it, and ask for more.
To Mix or Not to Mix
There are so many opinions about how to combine fruits and veggies - or how not to. Some people say that your body absorbs nutrients better when consuming one type of fruit or veggie at a time. Other people just don’t like the taste of mixing them together in a juice. Personal preference aside, you really can’t go wrong with juicing combos. Your body contains many different naturally occurring enzymes that are designed to digest different types of foods simultaneously. So don’t worry about confusing your body by combining different types of produce, but don’t go overboard either. Put together simple combinations that you like and go from there.
Variety is Everything
Your body has different nutritional needs day to day, month to month and year to year, depending on what you are going through. You don’t have to be a nutritionist to figure out what should go in your juicer though. Unless you have a serious health concern that could benefit from a specific nutrient, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables consumed weekly will give your body what it needs to thrive. Avoid making the same blend everyday, day after day. Your body will love you for keeping things interesting!
Keep It Simple
When it comes to most things in life, if you’re overwhelmed or confused, chances are you won’t stick with it long enough to enjoy the benefits. Too many options? Just work with a couple recipes with one or two ingredients to get started. Not sure what kohlrabi is? Choose something you’re familiar with instead. Set up your juicing station so that you have all the tools you need for prep and clean up ready to go. You’re more likely to reap the benefits of cold pressed juice if you’ve made it easy and convenient to produce.
Don’t Overload on Sugar
So if you’re thinking that a tall glass of strawberry/kiwi/mango/pineapple juice could be the perfect morning beverage - think again. Even though fruit contains powerful vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, it also contains sugar. The sugar is naturally occurring fructose but your body still treats them in the same way as table sugar or corn syrup. You may even experience a sugar high followed by a crash, similar to what you get when you have a slice of cake or can of coke. Balancing sweet fruits with leafy greens in your juices not only offers more nutrition, but also helps your body process the sugars more efficiently.
Use Seasonal Produce
It is easy to get into a juicing rut, making a few favourite recipes over and over, but even if your blends are delicious, there’s always room for something special. One of the best things about juicing, is that you can feature the best seasonal produce in the market and keep your healthy lifestyle interesting. Visit your local farmer’s market for the best (and freshest) picks of the season and celebrate the time of year by indulging in nature’s bounty.
Sometimes Less is More
It may be tempting to use juicing as a way to super-load your body with nutrients. But your body can only process so much at a time, and will release the excess as waste. That’s just like juicing your money directly and sending it down the drain. If you wouldn’t eat two pounds of vegetables at one sitting, then don’t try to drink the equivalent as juice. A little bit everyday is better for your body and your bank balance.
Incorporating these tips can help you offer top nutrition to your family. However, the best juice aficionados will tell you that if you’re not loving the taste, feeling the health benefits or are just plain overwhelmed by the whole juicing thing, it won’t become part of your nutritional routine.
With these easy suggestions, you can elevate your home juice bar look to look and taste more like a professional one.
